Manifesto
Why notes. Why simplicity.
I write notes because I forget. Not the big ideas, the details. Which index, which isolation level, which mistake I made last time. A note is the smallest thing I can write that my future self will trust.
They’re public because explaining something to a stranger is the fastest way to find out I don’t understand it yet. When I get something wrong, I date the correction and leave the mistake where you can see it.
Why simplicity
Most systems I’ve worked on didn’t fail because they were too simple. They failed because nobody could hold them in their head anymore. Simple isn’t easy; it’s what’s left after a lot of deleting.
Simplicity is prerequisite for reliability.
Edsger W. Dijkstra
So this site is simple too. No tracking, no comments, no infinite scroll. Notes are grouped into trails, ordered paths through them, and every note and trail has a printed edition, because I still read best on paper, with a pencil.
